The Smokers Poem

There was a man who liked to smoke; "I’ll quit some day", he used to joke.He took them with him where ever he went; and out of his wallet the money was spent. He needed them more, so more he would pay; just to get through the pressure of his day.Once he was home, it didn’t slow down; he needed a puff and searched all around.finding them on the table, he gave a deep sigh; relieved that his brain would soon be on high.Feeling able to handle things with peace; he went to lie down to relax and to ceasethinking about stuff that clouded his mind; drifting to sleep, putting the day behind. Then waking in the morning, fumble he did; looking for those cigs, with an open eye-lid.Finding them not, he yelled aloud; everyone could hear him, even those in a crowd. Then clutching his chest, he gave a loud wheeze; breathing his last, he fell down with a seize. When they found him, they said he was holding a lighter; his other hand held, an empty pack even tighter. What a sad end to his life,

Freedom After 40 Years, Nenejune's Quit Smoking Story

From quitsmoking.about.com/od/quitsmo ... nejune.htmNenejune's Quit Smoking StoryFreedom After 40 Years: My Quit StoryI doubt that my story will be much different than other quit smoking stories. As much as we are unique as individuals, I have found that as nicotine addicts, we are very much alike. If anyone new to quitting reads this, maybe they will see something of themselves and realize that they too can quit smoking.I started smoking at the tender age of 15. That would have been about 1968, and people smoked everywhere at that time. There were cigarette ads on TV, in magazines, and on billboards. Characters smoked on TV and in the movies. People smoked in restaurants, stores, offices, and in their homes. Anyone, any age, could buy cigarettes from a machine for about 50 cents a pack.My dad smoked, but my mom never did. No one ever told me not to smoke, but somehow I knew I wasn’t supposed to, especially because I was under 18. It was common for the boys my age to smoke, but not

Article about relapse

This was posted on the Huffington Post Last week at: huffingtonpost.com/carole-be ... 19255.htmlI'd love to hear your responses.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Carole BennettIs Relapse Part Of Recovery? As a substance abuse counselor I am asked this question all the time. Because I am not in recovery myself, my answer comes from years of counseling alcoholics/addicts and processing their answers along with my own professional insight. So, with that said...is relapse part of recovery? Yes and no depending on whom you are talking to. If one has relapsed, learned from their "slip" and embraced a stronger, more formidable recovery, then the answer is "yes". However, if one continues to relapse because they have not tethered a confident and secure change in their lifestyle, then relapse just becomes an excuse for buying more time before committing to sobriety. Hence, the answer is "no".I have befriended many alcoholics/addicts and a number of them have embraced their clean and

Trading one addiction for another?

I was just wondering if anyone ever found that when they quit smoking they traded one addiction for another? I was anorexic for about 10 years and then recovered almost 4 years ago. Lately, though, since i quit, I've been more motivated than ever to lose weight. It relieves my anxiety and it's the one thing in my life that I feel like I can actually do "right." I have no control over whether my writing sells or whether I get a job... but I can lose weight. I was aiming for a healthy weight of 125 pounds at 5'4 which I am quickly approaching but now the more desperate part of my mind is saying that 88 pounds is best because when I was 88 pounds I was REALLY thin and had actually succeeded at something. Lately I feel like a loser in my personal life and just want to be able to do something right and losing weight is all I know how to do, but I know if I get back down to 88 pounds i'll just end up in the hospital again and spend more time being sick but damn it... I don't

Digestive Problems

Its been a year since my quit and I have made it through the many stages of bodily change. I am hoping someone can help me understand what could be happening to my digestion.I experienced the usual bloating and gas in those first few weeks and over the months it all subsided. Now its been a year and I have noticed a considerable change. You know that feeling you get when you are hungry...and you think to yourself 'I'm hungry"...well that doesn't happen to me anymore...I don't feel that usual hunger as a trigger to eat, I get stomach cramps. It is like I have to relearn my body's language and relearn how it feels before the cramping starts because its so painful and tiring that by the time I do decide that I am hungry, I feel like I'm starving and I over eat and then my stomach cramps again because its too full. A couple of months ago I thought I had gastritis with flu like symptoms with the upper abdomen cramping lasting two days and so I went to the doctor to clarify. I was

It's the little things

That make me appreciate my quit. I went to Atlanta this weekend and the old me would stress anytime I travelled. When and where would I be able to smoke? Sitting in the airport I would also be on edge wanting that next fix. Anywhere I'd go I'd be looking for when or how I could get my fix. Crazy stuff. So this weekend no stress. Went to Taste of Atlanta and saw a couple lighting up in the middle of the crowd of folks eating great food. You could see they were almost trying to hide it. But they needed the fix. I said to my sister...see that used to be me. She smiled and said I know and I'm proud of you. Found out later she had also given Alan Carr's book to her stepson. So many things this weekend that in the past would have triggered an urge to smoke. I am thankful they no longer have that

Day 9!

Hello everyone! I just joined last night and i've enjoyed reading everyones success stories. I'm 28 and I have genetically high cholesterol so smoking was substantially stupid. I had been feeling awful on a daily basis and had no energy to do anything. I had been smoking since I was 15 or 16, but it wasn't until around 20 or so that I started buying a pack every day. I've been feeling light headed a lot lately, I have sleep anxiety and am constantly lying in bed concentrating on how my chest feels which is a pretty bad idea. I have absolutely no desire to smoke again. I've gained maybe two lbs in the last 9 days, but i've been walking 30-45 minutes a day and I usually eat pretty well.Anyway, i'll post more as the days go

Answer by StarscreamMy uncle has smoked for such a long time. He has quit now. How he quit i heard was that my family often prayed for him, and he began to chew gum, or suck on candy whenever he needed a cigarette. Try avoiding places where there is any smoke or cigars. I don't think cold turkey will help cause that just makes you full and it will gain you weight. Candy, or gum will not but they will keep you busy. Oh another thing is that somewhere in Europe, they sell bracelets for smokers. Theses help you keep you occupied. It helps you stop and your mind is concentrated on that bracelet. At the end of the night I had a smoker on each side of me (outside) and I was thinking WTH LOLThis past Sat I went out with my friend to a bar/club but I didn't feel like having any drinks..so I just had water all night. I forgot that this place (Blue Martini) lets you smoke indoors (almost all the bars and clubs do here if they don't have a big food menu) I thought it was non smoking and thats one of the reasons I picked it. Hi there everyone,I recently gave up the evil cancer sticks on 8th October and thought I would share my story so far if nobody minds...I am 34 yrs old married with two sons and was a late starter with smoking at 23 yrs old (how stupid!) I have been poorly with a severe fatigue based disability for the last 6 years and have a teenage son with ADHD so have had my hands full for a while I absolutely hated smoking most of the time, and don't remember many 'AHHH' cigarettes truth be told..but it still wasn't enough to make me bin them or the recent news that my mum has been diagnosed with lung cancer after her smoking for 50 plus years.I know smoking isn't good for ANYONE but when I look at my health problems and what my mum has, cannot believe that I still continued to force feed myself with the dreadful addiction. I finally stopped and went Cold turkey after I ended up with a really nasty chest infection on the 7th October and COULDN'T physically smoke..even though I would have

How can I help my fiance stop smoking?

How can I help my fiance stop smoking?
My fiance has been smoking on and off for probably 15 years. He's successfully quit a few times, only to eventually end up smoking again. He smokes about half a pack a day right now. He knows how much I can't stand it because I don't want to lose him to cancer or heart disease in 20 years, but this doesn't seem to deter him enough. He wants to stop, or at least he says so, and he has tried the gum and the lozenges with a little success, but he doesn't seem completely motivated (sometimes he'll choose the cigarette over the lozenge, for example). What can I do to help him stop for good? Do you have any ideas, or ways that you've helped someone stop smoking?
He hates fixing stuff up around the house, unless it's a comuputer heh... but I could keep his hands busy with a video game.. thanks for the idea.

I think he also likes the social aspect of smoking, which is an even harder thing to break imo...

Day 1 Done...

Good Evening to Everyone:Today was my quit day and I'm very happy to say that I made it through the day without smoking. The physical withdrawal symptoms weren't too bad today so I'm expecting them to be a much stronger challenge tomorrow. Of course that little voice in my head kept tempting me to smoke just one... only one... but I didn't stumble because I knew that just one cigarette would mean having to start all over detoxing my system of the poison nicotine and losing what I'd already accomplished. I found the following passage in another posting on the board and could really identify with it as I too wish I could be an occasional smoker... a social smoker just as I am a social drinker. But no matter what that little voice in my head tries to convince me the fact is I, like the author of the passage below, have a minimum of 20 cigarettes a day and cannot smoke less. One cigarette today will always lead me back to 20+ cigarettes a day within a week. So I have no choice, no option

A page of truth

She broke my heart, shatter to a thousand pieces on a set of stairsIt was so many years ago, I don’t recall all the details, I do remember holding on to her arm and saying , “ please don’t go”” She just said “let it go, It was time to move on”. I let go of her arm and fell to a sit on the stepsShe walked up and turned the flight, forever out of sight I reached in my pocket and found a smoke to comfort me. As I sat there and smoked, I wiped away my tears and gathered my composer. At one point I got up and walked down the stairs headed to my car. My car sat in the parking lot out side the dorm dressed in brown primer, with oversized back tires a 68 camaro forever running out of gas, leaving me often to walk so I sat there and smoked another then one more or two wondering where to go, what I would do next but At this very moment I sat there alone, swearing one day I would have her back .I knew in my heart I could never let go and just move on..it simply was not

Without my imagination, which was responsible for giving the cigarette powers it never really had, the cigarette continued to lay there lifelessly like the inanimate object that it was. Being exactly what it is. NOTHING. Without me, it couldn't sing and it couldn't dance. I gave it life.In other words, I have finally come to realize that cigarettes don't make be happy or help me when I'm sad, they don't make me concentrate or take away my boredom, they don't make me calm or give me confidence. A cigarette has the same abilities as a STONE. All of these years, I would have been better off putting my beliefs into a shiny STONE. and holding it in my hand when I felt I needed soothing and believe with all my heart that it could soothe me.All of these years I lived in a fairy tale believing my own vision, that a cigarette could do this for me.Better to believe in a shiny STONE, and breath fresh air rather than

SOS, the break up edition

I just broke up with my long distnce boyfriend of 3.5 years. I quit smoking in large part because I was hoping he would move and we could maybe make some bebehs before it’s too late for me (I’m 39). Another reason was because my little black cat was coming home every time I lit a cigarette. I didn’t call her or anything, the click of the lighter and smoke smell and she would come home. It was a shock to realize that’s what I smelled like because I did it so much! She ran away from home in early August and I found her dead in late August. And now Psyche is never going to come running to me again. And since it’s nearly Halloween it sucks since there’s black cats all over the place. All I really managed to do today is realize that now Cupid comes running when he hears me crying. And I changed one password that was related to my ex. Other than that, ugh, I want to smoke really really badly because it is at least something

Q&A: What does smoking cigarettes in your dreams mean?

What does smoking cigarettes in your dreams mean?
Since I can remember, I've had dreams off and on with me smoking in them. I've never smoked in my life, but in my dreams, I can vividly taste the cigarette and smoke and something tells me that I've done it before when I wake up, although I know I never have.

Recently, every dream I've had has included smoking cigarettes. They also commonly depict me traveling or running away from family. Any clues as to what this may mean?

Answer by Colleen A.Ooh, you're a rebellious one! You're struggling for independence and control in your life, and something seems to be keeping you back. It's like you're on a treadmill, and you're subconsciously frustrated and angry about your inability to obtain your goal. As a result, a part of you has gotten very rebellious. You're dreaming about doing things you perceive as somehow wrong or naughty. You smoke cigarettes. You run away from your family. It's like your mind is saying: "Look at

Stopping tobacco use is difficult. Millions of nicotine users smoke each day, a sign of the problem that nearly all nicotine users have with stopping. Although almost the whole of cigarette smokers are cognizant of the hazards they fail to conquer the cravings to not smoke.
Puffing on cigarettes is such an addictive habit many cigarette smokers cannot stop by themselves without help. The determination, will power, and self control needed to quit cigarettes after a prolonged period of the habit is often greater than people can muster.
To aid smokers who desire to end their tobacco use but do not have the necessary self control there are many stop smoking assistance items. There are a range of products which serve different uses to aid people in ceasing their tobacco habit.
There are aids to decrease the impact of nicotine withdrawal, the effects of

On my way to work this morning I finally realized what it is like to be a non-smoker. Now I am not saying I am not an addict, casue I am and I am one puff away form a pack a day. But over 7 months ago I was that guy who "could not do it", I just could not quit. I hated smoking. The very thought of it discusted me. The smell, the shortness of breath, the smoke, the tase, the thought of my wife gagging when ever she kissed me, I hated smoking.... but I could not quit. Well almost 8 months ago I found this board and all the wonderfull people and welth of information locked inside its cyber walls, and I took a shot at it. LOL, it was always there. I wasn't READY to learn. Once I was ready, I GOT IT. I'm speaking about myself personally here but this feeling is amazing. Tomorrow's the day

Greetings Everyone! What a great message board and support group!I smoked for 23 years and then quit cold turkey for 13 years. During those 13 years of being smoke-free I never touched a cigarettte, worked out at the gym 6 days a week, and felt better than I had ever felt better both physically and mentally in my entire life. Six years ago I began smoking again after experiencing the loss of my mate and now I'm again smoking a pack+ a day. I want control of my life back... to run without gasping for breath, to have an abundance of energy because of healthy lungs and heart, to not have to excuse myself from an event to go outside for a fix of nicotine, to not be dependent on a costly product that is simply designed to kill me.I remember how challenging the first 7 to 10 days can be, but I also remember the incredible rewards after getting past those initial days. I'm committed and starting tomorrow I will become a non-smoker again and permanently. Thanks for listening. And if I feel I'm

It's My Nose, Not A Chimney! 5 Of The 100 Reasons I'll Never Smoke

I have always wondered why smokers smoke, but since none of the reasons I've gathered so far makes sense to me, I have decided instead to focus on why I will never smoke, and why I think you and your kids shouldn't smoke either, or if you already smoke, why you should quit. I have thought of 100 reasons why you shouldn't smoke, but due to the constraints of time and space, I will discuss only 5 for now, and give you the rest later in a book I am writing about the subject. It is my hope that you will read this article with your kids and encourage them to stay away from smoking. Here are the reasons:

1. Smoking is not "cool"
Ever since I was a kid, I've never found smoking appealing, attractive or "cool". Even as a kid, I found the habit nasty, the smoke stinky and annoying, and I noticed that many smokers had stinky breath, stinky clothes and yellow teeth. But there were billboards and movie scenes

Cigar nostalgia

I'm feeling a little sad about not being able to smoke cigars anymore. Cigarettes are gross and stupid, a perceived "need." I don't really miss them as such. Cigars are a little different to me. A want, not a need. I used to smoke about one cigar a week. Every Tuesday, a group of my girlfriends and I would meet at a local coffee shop and order a coffee and smoke a cigar each, talking and laughing. I knew that if I went this week, I would have a hard time (I quit Monday), so I bowed out of our plans. I hate to give up my Tuesdays, and since my friends mostly aren't cigarette smokers (only one of the group, my sister), I'm thinking we can move our girls' night inside the coffee shop and skip the cigar part all together. Before I quit, I told myself that I could keep smoking my one cigar a week once I quit smoking, but the more I learn about the reality of nicotine addiction, the less I think that cigars are safe. (I got some good info here at

Quit smoking to live a healthier and better life again

Quit smoking to live a healthier and better life again

Smoking is the most common cause of death all over the world. More than 50% of the people, who do not quit smoking, die of a smoking-related condition. Cigarette smoke contains around 4000 chemicals out of which 23 are carcinogens. Quitting smoking has numerous advantages. People who quit smoking live healthier lives than those who do not. Smokers have a risk of various types of cancers, stroke, lung diseases and heart problems; they not only risk their own lives by smoking, but also risk the lives of others through second hand smoke. Smoking in pregnant mothers reduces the level of oxygen reaching the foetus. This habit also impairs your vision and olfactory senses. What is smoking cessation and what are its advantages?Smoking cessation, also known as quitting smoking, is the process of discontinuing the practice of inhaling a smoked substance. Smoking cessation programs mainly target tobacco smoking, but may

The Smokers WICKED WEB of Illusion

It was pointed out to me that we go on kidding ourselves and say that smoking has advantages because it helps us to relax when we are stressed or anxious. If that were the truth, we wouldn't need to light up when we were feeling relaxed and calm. It was also pointed out to me that sometimes we use cigarettes because we believe they relieve our sadness. If that were the truth, we wouldn't need to use them when we are happy. It was also pointed out to me that we use them because we claim we cannot concentrate without them. If that were the truth, we wouldn't go looking for them to relieve moments of boredom. What a wicked web of illusion the smoker weaves around himself/herself to keep feeding the short lived nicotine addiction and longer lived emotional attachment. Creative Ideas To Quit smoking today

The campaign to reduce smoking or eliminate it got mixed results. Using celebrity endorsers suffered a little bit of irony as movies are still a deterrent in the advocacy to quit smoking today. Government warnings printed on each cigarette pack are still ineffective at alerting people of the dangers that smoking represents.
Hundreds of books were published to inform the public of the benefits quitting today. Unfortunately, only a few of these books have landed on different bestseller lists. There are numerous stop smoking reviews sites but people are more interested in satisfying their perversion over the internet, than trying to quit smoking today.
It seems that the campaign "quit smoking today" needs more ideas to effectively persuade the public. Here are some creative ideas for stop smoking reviews sites in their advocacy to encourage people for a smoke free world.

Random Thoughts on Day 2

Greetings all. I know I haven't told anyone that after many years of smoking, I had a whole year of quitting once. Boy it taught me some things about myself. Good things.During that year I still felt like I was missing out on something. I kept pining for a cigarette. Instead of rejoicing and looking on the positive side which was that I was saving my life, I was looking at the negative things about quitting (there are none I invented them) and moping around because I couldn't have my vice and so I was never really QUIT. I was physically quit but not mentally quit. (thanks for that observation Allen Carr). When a relative of mine became ill with the big C my brain snapped and said THIS stressful time would be the perfect time to light up. That first cigarette tasted so disgusting but it was too late, I had re-awakened the beast. At this stage in my life, I was only emotionally attached to the cigarette, and with 1 smoke I again became chemically attached. A couple of packets

Totally Wicked eLiquid Decadent Vapours Parma Violet

Woweeee! Parma Violet is an awesome flavour. Just did a first impressions video review of it and even though it's not as unique a flavour as Apple Pie is, it's still very very awesome. It's a zesty, zingy citrus flavour that is almost like orange sherbet with some very subtle floral tones to it that do not overpower the rest of the sherbety goodness. This is definitely a must for any sweet tooth vaper, anyone who likes fruity flavours, or anyone who likes citrus flavours in general. According to Nick Oteen (not his real name :) ), the creator, you can lower the density of the concentrate to achieve a more floral experience but I think I will stick to the standard 7 drops mix for now. 9 out of 10 easily.. only losing a point because it is not as unique and decadent as the apple pie is.. but having said that, I think I will be vaping parma more than I will apple pie because it's just the type of flavour I personally enjoy. :) According to a contact, dereck72

Eric Burns, who chronicled the social history of alcohol in "The Spirits of America" turns to tobacco in "The Smoke of the Gods". Ranging from ancient times to the present day, "The Smoke of the Gods" is a lively history of tobacco, especially in the United States. Although tobacco use is controversial in the U.S. today, Burns reminds us that this was not always the case. For centuries tobacco was generally thought to have medicinal and even spiritual value. Most of the signers of the

Why Fast Food is Not Saving You Time (nor Doing You Other Favors)
In their new book, The Lost Art of Real Cooking: Rediscovering the Pleasures of Traditional Food One Recipe at a Time , co-authors Ken Albala and Rosanna Nafziger write that “we’ve been convinced that cooking is drudgery, a task to be avoided” and, conveniently enough, the marketplace has stepped in to offer fast, cheap alternatives to that 'drudgery.'” But as the authors argue, quick and easy

Nine months - then back to the beginning

I used to imagine how great it would be to reach the 9 month mark of not smoking. While I've had a couple of blips in the past, I've never sort of 'started smoking' again to the extent that it ruled my life. But now I have and find myself once more a slave to cigarettes. This makes me so so so miserable, angry, frustrated, scared - everything. I hate it more than I hate anything. Just prior to smoking I had begun eating well - now I hardly eat. We moved into a new house (part of the stress that triggered it) and I'm polluting it with my smell and it's wasting all my money and takes up all my time and my colleagues have to put up with my smell ... god I hate the smell I really realy hate it - oh, my daughter hates it obviously ... and I can't hug her if I smell (which is pretty much always now - brushing teeth, washing hands, hand cream, removing jacket - doesn't get rid of it). I smell it in my room at night as I've sweated out all the nicotine or whatever. Already (it's been about a

“You said it would get better. It's just as bad as..."

whyquit.com/joel/Joel_04_06_ ... psych.html“You said it would get better. It's just as bad as the day I quit smoking!” Recently I was met with this warm greeting from a clinic participant on his eighth day without smoking. As you may recall, we explain during the clinic that if a smoker can get through the first three days without smoking, the physiological withdrawal will start to diminish, and within two weeks all physiological withdrawal will stop. While we can accurately predict the physiological withdrawal, psychological withdrawals can occur at anytime. It is possible that the urge this man was having was just as painful as the ones he had a week earlier. While the urge may have been as strong, it was different. When he had an urge before, there was really nothing he could do to get over it. If he just held out a few minutes, the urge would pass. But psychological urges are more under the ex-smoker's conscious control. A good analogy demonstrating the difference

Not sure I care anymore... sorry. SOS?

I don't care about my health. Who wants to live forever anyway, lol. If I die with a cigarette in one hand and a drink in the other, I'll be going out happy. I'm so BORED and just feel so empty and "not-myself" trying to be healthy. None of it comes naturally to me, and i don't feel like I fit in anywhere with "that world." The things that make me happy are booze and ponies and yes, cigarettes. Feeling too depressed to even cry tonight, just more of an 'I don't give a F---' about anything mood. I'm TRYING to fight it. I went to the store earlier and bought a new Bruce Springsteen album with some tracks on it that I've never heard before because that also has the potential to cheer me up, and I felt something stir inside. But mostly, I just want to smoke to kill the time because everything is boring and empty without my cigarettes. I'll never be good enough at the things I love for this world. Sorrry. This was a challenge at first, but now I'm just tired

Help/advice!

Okay, heres my situation. Its kinda long, but please take the time to read it as I took the time to write it. I need some pointers here.I 'm 19, I began smoking tobacco in Grade 11. I used to smoke A LOT of pot, like a lot and I would mix tobacco with my weed and get a major head buzz. So eventually I began smoking cigarettes. I remember buying my first pack and saying, "holy crap, 25 smokes will last me a week!"Obviously, this was not the case and I became a habitual smoker. I would give up food to buy smokes, I remember going days without eating and just smoking because I'd have no money to buy food, and I'd spend my last buck on a pack of Pall Mall's. It got to the point of where I didnt even want the smoke and I'd gag but id still smoke it.So recrently, I have "quit" smoking. I say quit because 3 days ago I had a smoke (my buddy was over and he was smoking so I had a few drags which led to a full one and I got baked with tobacco last weekend, and I got drunk

My good thought for the day

Day 4 --So after going through hell yesterday dealing with being around a bunch of smokers today it was even worse because I was alone so much with my thoughts. So I was studying for a test and usually whenever I study I do a chapter at a time with a cig in between as something to look forward to and to kind of refresh my mind. So today I finished a chapter and just kind of sat on the couch trying to refresh when I decided I really needed a cig if I wanted to pass this test. So I thought about it for a while and thought to myself "How will I feel while smoking and after smoking that one cigarette?" and I remember the last time I ended a quit (that was a 5 month quit at the time), I thought wow that cig won't even be good, I will hate myself for smoking it, I will have suffered for nothing, and it would do me absolutely no good because I will have just re-entered nicotine in my body.So YAY for finally being rational every now and then, and YAY for having QSMB to post this on

I went for a walk today

Not a walk for exercise or to tag along with friends talking of things to come. Instead I walked threw the cemetery, to visitThe dead. Not where my father rest next to my mother, but many miles from there in a town near the coast. The gates were closed but not locked so I open the latch and walked right in The dates could be read, some stones you could tell had seen many winters standing tall marking the name of the buried belowJones, Smith, Louis, Herzog, and so many others Some lived for many years,, and some not so many. A few in fact just days. I think it was more common back then to bury the young and new born. As to it was more common to bury loved ones never really knowing why. Medicine took thousands and thousands of years to catch up to dieing. Still medicine can not cure many things but it can tell you what’s wrong. And even warn you of harmful things, that could and would see you dead if you kept on. As I walked I wondered, How many of theses graves did cigarettes dig.?

Most of you know I work in an office where my two bosses smoke inside the office all day (yes, it is illegal here in FL)Well, one actually quit last week! HE never said anything to me directly. Anyway, I haven't said anything about them smoking inside since the first week or so of my quit. Lots of you have given me advice on the situation.Well, I finally brought it up again. I just couldn't take it anymore. It was nice having the office smoke free for the past week and then yesterday I came in and the boss who still smokes was puffing away again.I wrote a lengthy letter to both (I didn't want to single one boss out because it was awkward enough, even though I knew the other just quit 10 days ago). Well, the one that quit wrote me back and ripped me a new one! I knew it wouldbe ugly, but what choice do I have here? I need the money and the economy is terrible. It's not like there are tons of jobs around. But, at the same time..this can't continue forever. I am sick of reeking of cigs

E-Cigarettes ? How are they as Smoking Alternatives

E-Cigarettes ? How are they as Smoking Alternatives

Smoking is a destructive habit. And as such, it has to be halted. However, to quit smoking is one of those easier-said-than-done things. With the help of electric cigarettes though, being independent from it can be fulfilled with less difficulty than it used to be. Basically, e-cigarettes are new smoking devices. And as their name implies, they work with the help of electricity. Specifically, the electricity they need is provided by a tiny, rechargeable battery. That battery is assembled with other parts to form the new device. Among those parts, aside from battery, composing the modern smoking devices is the cartridge that holds the e-liquid or nicotine juice that provides the sensation similar to traditional smoking. Another on the list is the atomizer, the part that heats up and vaporizes the e-liquid so it can be inhaled. Most e-cigs also have LED on top producing a burning illusion. In terms of looks, e-cigs can

Breaking the EMOTIONAL attachment to smoking.

This has been the biggest hurdle for me so I post it to help others as well.Have you ever considered that after years of smoking that you may of developed an emotional attachment to smoking cigarettes? Smoking cigarettes has become your release, escape, and at times your best friend. It is hard to imagine a day going by without having a cigarette. Even confronted with the idea of going without can bring on feelings of despair and anxiety. The psychological effects of smoking can be much more powerful than the physical effects. There is a way to prepare yourself to quit smoking and stay quit but first you have to break the emotional attachment.Emotional attachment, or psychological addiction accounts for a good 80 percent of the smoker’s challenge. And yet, most systems essentially overlook this most important component. That’s why so many ex-smokers never completely forget about their cigarettes. You probably know smokers who haven’t had a cigarette in decades. And they say they

I'm just curious about the mindset of the rest of you in regard to this matter. Once upon a time I certainly would have. We could have sat out on the back porch and puffed to our hearts content but considering the difficult journey I have been on, trying to get my quit in place, I just could not see myself letting a person into my life if they're going to be bringing cancerette sticks along with them. I know that it is up to me to resist any urge to smoke those cancerette sticks with them but I don't want any temptations and I don't want to lose them (if I happen to fall in love with them) to the deadly habit. I also figure there definitely won't be anything attractive about kissing an ashtray. Not that I dwell on this but sometimes I wonder how many people have looked at me thinking "hmmm, they're alright, I'd date them but eww, they

Growing Tobacco?Organic Fertilizers For Your Homegrown Tobacco

Are you growing tobacco at home? Or are you considering starting your own garden tobacco, because of the ridiculous prices in the stores, or concerns about the additives in commercial tobacco products? Perhaps you never thought about it, but organic is the very best way to raise your homegrown tobacco.I'm sure that some would say tobacco and organic used together doesn't make much sense. However, tobacco is a natural plant, closely related to tomatoes, peppers and eggplant. "Organic gardening" could be defined as growing fruits and vegetables (as well as flowers, lawn grass or any other type plant), using only things found in nature, or things that are natural. In other words, avoiding the use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides and such, which are harmful to the environment, and to our health. So, why not grow tobacco organically, too? We don't eat tobacco, but we surely do consume

6 weeks.

I made it to six weeks! Six SOLID weeks I might add! None of those "Aww, well, I had A cigarette on Monday...but then I quit again!" NO. None of that. Six weeks smoke free and 25 days without nicotine! And I must say, to anyone who might be struggling, it gets easier all the time. I find it very strange, however, that at 6 weeks I have little to no cravings for cigarettes AT ALL. I also find the smell of cigarette smoke to be very offensive to my nose. I think the only time when I have that little "glimmering" thought of smoking is when I look over at my neighbor's snug little patio - She's got about a 10 foot by 20 foot patio, totally enclosed with fencing, decorated with lights, a patio table and chairs inside, carpeted, the works- I start to think "Man, she's pretty lucky she can sit out on that nice patio on one of these nice evenings we've been having, and smoke her cigarettes". I start to picture the feeling of relaxation she must get. Silly
